Object description
A North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) documentary film, released as part of the "Atlantic Review" series. Originally produced in 1961, 'Mobility' was designed to emphasise the need for armed forces within NATO to continually research and develop technologies that would advance the manoeuvrability of troops, machines and equipment. This, it was hoped, would ultimately help ensure peace during a period of heightened tension in the Cold War era.
Content description
The documentary takes a brief look at the importance and development of fast and efficient manoeuvrability through military history. Traditional methods of combat mobility are contrasted with the helicopters and hovercrafts used by NATO nations in the 1960s.
