(Tape 1) I. Trials of equipment and vehicles at Saunton Sands; specifically, items for use by a Royal Marines ABU (Amphibious Beach Unit). Wheeled tractor with scoop drives across the beach, flattening the sand prior to laying a trackway. Driver is a uniformed Royal Marine Commando, who is given directions by one of the ATTURM staff (in high visibility jacket). Tractor scoops sand from the beach. Land Rover and heavy duty fork lift tractor, carrying pallet of ammunition boxes, on road and on beach. Pallet is loaded onto the back of a Bedford lorry. Flattening of sand with tractor; Hippo beach recovery vehicle is in the background. Trackway is attached to bobbin on a modified tractor; the corrugated trackway is wound onto the bobbin and the tractor drives across the beach past the camera. II. Exterior of the stores area at ATTURM, seen from public road; gate is opened to allow Land Rover to enter. Sign "1 Assault Group Amphibious Trials & Training Unit Royal Marines". (Tape 2) Engineers inspect schematics of a new gearbox on computer monitor and printout. Presentation in classroom for Marines, including written test. Inspection of heavy tractor. Marines eating in the galley. Vehicle wading trials in the dip tank. Workshop: welding and other operations. Maintenance of Yamaha Waverunner jetski. Wading trials on the beach at Instow: Land Rovers drive onto LCVP and off again into the swell.
