The video is introduced by Marine Fielding (M Company, 42 Commando, who shows us round inside the crowded tent where they bivvy on the floor. He records a message for his family. General views inside the tent (brief full frontal of one of the men). Marine Simon Jennison, talks about MRE (meal, ready to eat) rations. He shows us the contents of an MRE pouch in detail. He prepares the main meal sachet (spaghetti and meatballs) which he puts inside a flameless heating pouch, which allows it to be heated by the sun. He eats the meal straight from the pouch. Another marine ("Dan Nurse ?"), wearing only a towel and shorts, shows the interior of the shower block, where he washes in one of the basins. Other Marines wash their clothes. Views of the shower block with twelve cubicles. Black sergeant major Ron Sinclair (K Company) sits outside in an area where small clothing items are washed in small bowls; he records a message for his wife and children. Ed Stout, CQMS for K Company, talks about the open air stores, with meals and bottled water stacked in the background. Storage area, where ammunition and supplies are stored in ISO containers. Message to wife and children. General views of the camp. Marines training on open desert range., advancing with their weapons. "Ad Lyons" of J Company introduces himself; behind him, some of his fellow marines carry out drills in which they capture prisoners of war. Marine Lyons discusses the use of basic Arabic, and the procedures to be used when detaining suspects. He also talks about the weather and general morale in the camp, and records a message to his family and friends. Marines training in a makeshift outdoor gymnasium (no sound during this brief sequence. Message to families by Buster Howes, intended as the introduction to the completed video. Padre officiates at an open air Lenten service, before a table set up as a temporary altar with votive candles and a crucifix. (Camp life continues in the background.) Workshop, 42 Commando RM: vehicle maintenance is carried out, including repairs to a BV and fuelling of a lorry from a jerrican. Group of soldiers gather in the open air for a basic Arabic lesson. Soldiers relax outside their tents, eating their MREs. Marines carry out gun maintenance on a bench under camouflage netting (poor contrast in this sequence). Members of 42 Commando on parade (there are some US Marines also present). Sports: cricket match in the sand on the edge of the camp, also volleyball. Chinook helicopter flies overhead (downdraft causes a huge amount of dust); Two sequences during which underslung loads are attached by chains: in the first, a bridging frame is loaded, in the second, a pallet of supplies.
