TRIALS OF MEXEFLOTE WITH LSL SIR GALAHAD, MARCHWOOD, JANUARY 1967 [Allocated Title]
The Mexeflote modular floating platform undergoes sea trails, being side-launched from the Landing ship Sir Galahad.
Slate: "5-1-67... Run I". Mexeflote fixed to the side of Sir Galahad: views from on deck.
"5-1-67... Run II". The platform is lowered from the side of Sir Galahad: views from on deck and from quayside. Cables hold the platform in place. The Mexeflote is seen beside the landing ship: propulsion units are lowered an board and fixed in place, allowing the Mexeflote to move through the water. Interior views of the (empty) hold of Sir Galahad.
"6-1-67... Run III". The ramp on Sir Galahad is lowered, and the Mexeflote platform approaches and is secured. A truck and a tank drive across it to embark on the landing ship. (Snow is falling.) On board Galahad, the the vehicles drive up a steep ramp to the parking deck. Further trials take place with tanks, Land Rovers and a forklift tractor; the bow doors of Galahad open to allow the vehicles to drive on board.
"10-1-67... Run IV". Tank and truck drive onto the Mexeflote. In a separate sequence, sections of Mexeflote are lowered from the side of Sir Galahad and assembled.
"12-1-67... Run VII". A further side-drop of Mexeflote from the side of Sir Galahad.
