Full description
On a road with palm trees behind Japanese troops gather with their baggage. A large team of Japanese troops pushing what looks like a mobile anti-aircraft gun (or just its carriage?) but covered with baggage; the Japanese soldier at the front tries to appear martial. Japanese troops on the road with smaller carts and wagons. Japanese troops passing. The Japanese with the gun carriage pass a sign for Kota Bahru which has been painted out and replaced with Japanese katakana script (Kotabaru) (and in Malay below?). Brief wide shot Japanese troops on parade. A troop of 25-pounder guns from 145th Field Regiment Royal Artillery fire a salute as Indian soldiers present arms. British troops of 145th Field Regiment on parade for inspection by Brigadier Tapp. Tapp inspects Indian gunners of 35 Indian Mountain Battery, Indian Artillery. Inspecting Indian (?) troops, one of whom has parachute wings on his uniform, and all wear South East Asia Command phoenix insignia. Wide shot of a crowd of Japanese, not apparently formed up. Tapp, with the Union flag flying behind him, watches as Lieutenant-General (Saburo?) Kawamura, Governor of Perak, lays his sword on the ground. A crowd of watching civilians; Japanese officers walk across foreground. Another Japanese officer surrenders his sword and salutes Tapp. More Japanese officers, five at a time, salute Tapp and surrender their swords. Various further angles of groups of Japanese surrendering their swords, some showing Perak’s rugged terrain. A growing pile of swords. The Japanese (forming up before marching away; those in white shirts and hats apparently some kind of civil-military liaison officers. Japanese marching away; they pass an Indian 3.7-inch mountain howitzer. The Japanese marching off; they break stride to jump over some broken ground. Japanese running past. More Japanese marching away.
