BRIGADIER ANDREW MACKAY, AFGHANISTAN, OCTOBER 2007 [Allocated Title]
Interview with Brigadier Andrew Mackay OBE, the newly-appointed Commander of the Helmand Task Force and COMBRITFOR about intentions and expectations for the Task Force in Gereshk and the Upper Sangin Valley.
Brigadier Andrew Mackay, interviewed in October 2007, talks about the approach he plans to take as Commander of Task Force Helmand.
We are going to be concentrating on, can we get this balance between the offensive operations we know are required to counter the Taliban and the enemy threat against those operations which we know will make the difference in the medium to long term such as reconstruction and development, bringing on the Afghan Army, bringing on the Afghan Police? That’s the balance that we’ve got to achieve here and what I would like to do is a lot more of the latter rather than the former. (02.40–03.06)
