An account, with animated diagrams and detailed illustrative footage, showing the salvage of the Canadian Pacific steamship Empress of Canada at Gladstone Dock, Liverpool, by members of Mersey Docks and Harbour Board. The salvage took place between 6 March and June 27th 1954.
Empress of Canada had caught fire on January 1953; she later heeled to port and fell on her side. She lay on Gladstone Dock for over a year while plans were made for an elaborate salvage operation. First her funnels and external fixtures and fittings were removed.
