Crew raise the anchor on 'USS Des Moines' as she sets off on manoeuvres with the US Sixth Fleet, with senior NATO officials on board. Footage ensues relating to briefing, personnel and activities on deck, including the arrival of a helicopter on board. General scenes of manoeuvres, including the US aircraft carrier 'Franklin Delano Roosevelt'.
On board the 'USS Des Moines' are senior NATO personnel including General Eisenhower, Admiral Carney, General Wilton and Admiral Matthew B Gardner. Inside the briefing cabin on 'Des Moines', Admiral Gardner briefs his fellow officers. General Eisenhower and Admiral Carney are seen standing on deck by the ship's rail and also in the bridge with Admiral Gardner. Later, on deck, SHAPE officers General Pearson and Captain Anderson talk with Admiral Gardner; General Eisenhower takes photographs of Admirals Carney and Gardner and of activity on the deck. A helicopter lands on deck; General Eisenhower and Admiral Carney put on life jackets and board the aircraft, which takes off.
