Full description
The film opens with a close-up of a pub barmaid winking at the camera. She pulls down a beer tap and walks away, a man seated at the bar looks in horror as the wasted beer runs out of the tap. The commentary asks "Have you ever seen this happen? No, of course you haven't, beer is a valuable commodity especially these days, but have you seen this..." Film of wasted water. Shot of a man shaving with the tap running, a man using a hosepipe to wash his car, a man leaving the garden hose running while he stops to have a cigarette and a woman's feet in a bath full of water. The commentary continues "water is a valuable commodity too. Wasted water means extre fuel and manpower which are urgently needed for the war effort. Water is needed in ever greater quantities to meet the needs of our war industries, for our fire services and enormously increased supply to the evacuated population" over shots of war production, fire fighting, reservoirs and pumping stations, streams and rivers" The commentary concludes "Water is a munition of war don't waste it" over film of the shaving man firmly turning off the tap.
