Second World War British Ministry of Information newsreel trailer, in the style of a silent cinema melodrama, encouraging the public to eat more potatoes.
Opening title "The Way To His Heart". A father returns home to his wife and daughter and sits down at the table awaiting his meal. The wife places a plate of cold sausage and pickles before him and he looks at it in disgust and walks out of the room. The child asks, in an intertitle, "Where has my Daddy gone?". The father is seen drinking in a pub. The distraught mother comforts her daughter and then notices an item in the newspaper on the table and announces, in an intertitle, "New Hope is Born". The father returns from the pub and walks rather unsteadily in to the room. His wife serves up a plate of food and the father declares, in an intertitle "Emmaline can you ever forgive me? These potatoes are delicious!" the next intertitle adds " ... and there are 199 other ways of cooking them". The now happy family hold hands and grin at the camera. The film ends with a close up of Food Facts leaflet no 20 with the superimposed title EAT MORE SPUDS.
