BRITISH AND IRAQI UNITS IN MAYSAN PROVINCE, MARCH 2007 (TAPE 1) [Allocated Title]
Members of the Queen's Royal Lancers (QRL) and the Royal Marines (RM), with the Iraqi Department of Border Enforcement (DBE), on duty in rural areas of Maysan province prior to the transfer to PIC (Provincial Iraqi Control).
I. Queen's Royal Lancers on patrol. View from the rear of a WMIK Land Rover (with mounted rear gun) driving through the marsh areas; shots of gunner and of other WMIKs driving alongside. WMIKs manoeuvre on track and park up. Commanders walk towards reeds and back towards camera (staged). WMIKs move off again; they drive toward a fort near the Iranian border manned by the DBE. Various views around temporary QRL camp and Iraqi fort. Interviews with Members of B Squadron the Queen's Royal Lancers: Major Charles Bull (OC), Staff Sergeant Gary Moulds, Corporal Kevin Hough and Trooper Andy Freer. Members of the QRL and the DBE relax and share snuff; they also smoke from a shisha. The shisha is recharged with fresh tobacco. Back at camp, soldiers relax (one smokes a pipe) and make bracelets from cord.
II. Royal Marines (539 Assault Squadron) in the marshes. Views of RM Zodiac inflatable boats setting off: they make their way slowly through the reeds. On the open water, local fisherman paddles by. Various shots of the Zodiacs alongside airboats (with rear-mounted fans) of the DBE as they make their way across the open water of the marshes.
