In Batavia, capital of the Netherlands East Indies (Jakarta, Indonesia) General Sir Montagu Stopford (commander Allied Land Forces South East Asia) arrives by air the day before unveiling a memorial to Commonwealth personnel killed in the East Indies 1942-1946.
Full description
Shot on 15 June 1946: Stopford's aircraft, a Royal Air Force Douglas Dakota transport FL510 'Sister Ann' taxiing at Batavia airfield. Stopford disemplanes and is greeted by Air Commodore Stevens. Stopford takes the salute of a guard of honour of Indian troops, RAF Regiment personnel and Dutch troops, and then inspects them. He departs by car.
