The gun crew of "F" Troop, 502 Battery, 138th Field Regiment, Royal Artillery at rest in a pause in the attack on Longstop Hill near Chaouach, Tunisia. Men from "E" Troop with a German flag. Mule used for supplies in the hills north of Medjez El Bab.
Full description
The crew run up for "Take Posts", they dress hurriedly and remove the camouflage sheet. They fire rounds and the loader replaces cartridge cases in the box. The camouflage dust sheet is replaced. The loader removes the unused charges. The rest of the crew stroll back to a nearby edge of rock and sit down. One of them resumes his magazine and two more light cigarettes. Another continues a letter. The crew resting, with ammunition at hand.

Surplus cordite charges being destroyed. A gunner threads a needle and sews a button on his trousers. His companion removes his boots and socks and bathes his feet in water. Another gunner laying in the shade of his German bivouac tent.

An Auster air observation aircraft flies over, returning from a reconnaissance of Longstop Hill. The smoke of battle is seen rising from the valley behind Chaouach. Men and mules resting in a ravine above Kelbine. Panning shot along a ravine finishing on a sentry. An Arab muleteer shaves a comrade as the mules graze beside them.
