Full description
A wounded man being taken off an ambulance and carried by two Indian medical orderlies to a lighter. The orderlies placing the patient on the lighter. Two lighters drawn up alongside the quay with enemy, British and colonial wounded troops. The wounded men drinking tea, smoking and reading on the way to the hospital ship. The New Zealand Expeditionary Force brass band plays on the lighter as it sails across the harbour to the hospital ship. The lighter coming alongside «HMHS Maine». Panning shot of the brass band and the wounded on the deck of the lighter and a patient on a stretcher being hauled up by crane to the hospital ship. The captain of the ship checks a wounded man. The man is "labelled" and a male nurse looks at the label and puts the stretcher on a lift.
