Object description
Views of the River Chindwin, Burma, as seen from a DUKW ('duck') amphibious truck.
Full description
Landscape view of the River Chindwin with a mountain ridge rising behind. Views from the river, local people on the rocky riverbank. A local boat passes. A DUKW tows a barge partly constructed from Bailey bridge sections. The barge is carrying an AEC Matador lorry, a number of men and other vehicles. View from the riverbank; two DUKWs driving out of the river and up onto the riverbank. Swash behind a DUKW. Close-ups of DUKWs beaching; the first is serial 330443 and has a small cartoon duck, insigna of XXXIII Corps, the number '73' and a name, possibly 'HWA Butcher' (?). The second is 330963, with the same insignia and number, possibly named 'HMA Garwell' (?). The details on the third DUKW are not clear. Footage onboard a DUKW; a sign on the back of the driver's seat gives maximum speeds for different surfaces. Close-up of the driver, unfortunately his face is completely shaded by the brim of his bush hat. More landscape views.
