Navy film explaining the importance of the Atlantic shipping lanes and the danger of communication being cut by Soviet submarines. The tracking of Soviet navy submarines from their bases on the north coast of Russia into the Atlantic is shown, using Nimrod and Orion maritime patrol aircraft, and NATO submarines. The importance of surface units and convoy escort exercises is also emphasised. The film shows various unidentified NATO and Soviet submarines, the Leander Class frigate HMS Sirius (F.40), the Type 21 frigate HMS Alacrity (F.174), an unidentified Type 42 destroyer and firings of Ikara and Polaris missiles.
