Kallang Airport, Singapore; Mountbatten steps down from an RAF Douglas Dakota transport aircraft and is greeted by a civilian man wearing a topee. He is followed by Lieutenant-General William Slim, recently appointed commander of Allied Land Forces South East Asia (ALFSEA). Mountbatten and Slim are greeted by Lieutenant-General Philip Christison, General Officer Commanding XV Indian Corps. Senior officers talking. Mountbatten inspects a guard of honour. Air Chief Marshal Sir Keith Park, Air Commander-in-Chief, talking with Mountbatten. At Seletar airfield an RAF Regiment guard of honour presents arms as an RAF Ensign is hauled up the flagpole. Interior shots; Japanese officers (Vice-Admiral Kogure and Commander Asano of the Imperial Japanese Navy) surrendering Seletar to a Royal Navy officer (Lieutenant-Commander R A Inskip) as RAF Group Captain Geoffrey Francis looks on.
