A Guard of Honour consisting of troopers from the reconstituted Garde Republicaine greets the Allied Supreme Commander, General Eisenhower, and senior Allied military commanders at the Arc de Triomphe. The high ranking VIPs lay wreaths on the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior. Eisenhower makes a short speech, which is relayed to the crowd through a US army interpreter, and then presents Georges Bidault (?), President of the Comité Nationale de la Resistance, a plaque commemorating the part played by the people of Paris in their own liberation. Large numbers of US servicemen and press photographers are present at the occasion. Other identifiable personalities among the VIPs include Lieutenant-General Bradley, Air Chief Marshal Tedder, Lieutenant-General Spaatz, Major-General Kepner, Air Marshal Leigh-Mallory, Admiral Ramsay, Lieutenant-General Bedell-Smith, Generals Juin and Koenig and Admiral d'Argenlieu. Lieutenant-General Simpson and Air Chief Marshal Harris are somewhere in Eisenhower's entourage.
