A helicopter from the survey ship HMS Vidal drops men onto Rockall for a ceremony of annexation.
The survey ship HMS Vidal approaches Rockall Island and its Sycamore helicopter begins to ferry men to the rock. Aerial views of Rockall show a precipitous snag, the waves regularly breaking half-way up its sides - perched near the incommodious summit are four men who have set up a small tripod-mounted flagpole. As the Vidal circles the rock the Union Jack is broken out on the summit, the flag streaming out in the stiff breeze. This is presumably accompanied by a salvo from the Vidal's 3-pounder saluting guns which crewmen are seen loading. Signals are exchanged, and the party and their gear are air-lifted back to the ship.
