His Imperial Highness Ras Makonnen, Shum (Duke) of Harar and son of Emperor Haile Selassie, visits CINCMED Lord Mountbatten onboard HMS Glasgow.
Full description
The Shum takes salute at bottom of gangway, boards HMS Glasgow and takes salute again. Admiral Mountbatten greets him and introduces the Captain. HIH inspects Guard then goes below for luncheon. Mr Wardle Smith (HBM Consul General Asmara) boards at Massawa and is greeted by the Captain and by Admiral Mountbatten. The Admiral inspects the Abyssinian Guard of Honour prior to visiting the British Vice Consul at Massawa (where he will pay an official call on the Charge d'Affaires, Addis Ababa).
