Animated maps of the major campaigns on the Western Front, 1914-1918.
The main map shows Europe from Dover east to Frankfurt and from Antwerp south to Orléans. First a close-up of the British positions at the end of the First Battle of Ypres. Then the main map showing the line after the Somme battles of 1916, followed by a close-up of the area. A separate map showing the British gains during the Somme offensive and the retreat to the Hindenburg Line. The line of the furthest German advance in 1914, showing the position near Paris. A final map with all the main phase lines of the Western Front added to it by dissolves: the furthest German advance of 1914, the line at the end of 1914, the line after the retreat to the Hindenburg Line of 1917, the line after the German offensive of March-May 1918, which is traced in close-up from the Channel coast to the area of Noyon.
