Film showing the past and present life of Malacca.
The film tells how Malacca has been conquered several times - by the Portuguese, the Dutch and the British. Malacca as it is now is compared with the past. Featured scenes: big ships passing by Malacca and going to the newer ports; the temples, churches, streets, houses, shops and markets of the town clustered around the bottom of Malacca's hill; the famous Malaccan bullock cart still bringing produce from the countryside to the market; the trading junks plying their goods as they have done for a thousand years; the green wealth of paddy fields, rubber estates, plantation and village; the religious ceremonies, dances and processions, indicating how on religious days Malacca seems to become a part of India; the different religions that exist in the area. The film concludes by suggesting that the various cultures "give Malacca its character as a place where East and West have fused and settled down in peace".
