A general recruiting film for the services which "will all be regulars by the end of 1962".
Opening scenes from Cyprus, Jordan, Aden and Malaya suggest the Forces' work ("wherever armed force threatens the peace of the world, our three services are ready to accept the challenge") while film of HMS Bulwark going to aid a burning tanker recalls their help in civilian crises. The next section indicates improvements being made in living conditions, with new buildings replacing old barracks; married quarters and schools; leave and recreation facilities. Changes to be made for reasons of efficiency will bring automation and employment of civilians and women in back-up roles; the services themselves will be smaller but more mobile. Equipment already or soon to be in service is displayed: RAF transports (for army mobility); stand-off bombs; new fighter aircraft for the Air Force and Navy; anti-submarine equipment; army material designed for ease of movement; communications; missiles. "In the defence of our country, the prospect of an excellent career is open to all."
