Life in the Women's Royal Army Corps seen through the fictionalised experiences of one young Lieutenant.

Lieutenant Anne Bartlett works as a signals officer at a British army base in Singapore. After scenes of her daily routine, reconstructed flashbacks show how she comes to be there: applying to the army while working as a secretary; training at Camberley; commissioning ceremony and first postings in England; flying to Singapore. Aspects of her social life are shown: sailing; driving in her car; relaxing in the mess (other girls introduced) and social evening. She is "part of a very real and very happy community".
