Television report on the construction of the ballistic missile early warning radar at Fylingdales, Yorkshire and the current state of nuclear defence in Britain and America.
The film which is presented and narrated by a reporter shows the Fylingdales radar installation under construction and has an interview on site with Mr Costain in charge of construction covering the difficulties encountered in such a remote area and some of the delays resulting. A US military chief is interviewed about the relative importance of Britain in what is principally an American project and about the present and future defence capabilities of the West. Graphics show the Soviets' present attack capability (bombers with a variety of decoy devices) and the USA's present radar net. A sequence shows a defence exercise in the USA involving the mobilising of aircraft and launching of missiles.
