Full description
Reel 1. The King and Queen greet Mrs Roosevelt at Paddington Station. Eisenhower can be seen in the background. The KLM DC-3 comes in to land at Whitchurch Airport and taxies to the hardstanding. Mrs Roosevelt exits from the rear door, the KLM logo visible thereon. A Lockheed 12 (possibly of 24 Squadron) named 'City of Canberra' arrives carrying the US Ambassador, J G Winant. He greets her and is filmed at length in the doorway of an airport building. The party arrives at Bristol Station. The crowds on the platform are filmed as the train moves off and Mrs Roosevelt and Mr Winant are seen together in the railway carriage. Mrs Roosevelt is accompanied by her secretary, Miss Thompson.
Full description
Mrs Roosevelt's signature in the Fighter Command visitor's book, is filmed in close up. The cars arrive and Mrs Roosevelt is greeted by Air Chief Marshal Sir Sholto Douglas. Accompanied by WAAF officers Mrs Roosevelt inspects the and talks to members of, the WAAF Guard of Honour. Mrs Roosevelt then enters Fighter Command HQ (shot from the inside) and is invited to sign the visitor's book.
