Object description
Publicity piece illustrating the typical work of one of the Wessex HAS.1 helicopters of 845 Squadron based at Nanga Gaat in Sarawak.
Full description
Opening shots in cockpit of a Wessex in flight over the jungle. Cut to Nanga Gaat as a sand-coloured RN Wessex, recognition letter L, flies in and sets down a cargo net filled with fuel drums. CU of notice board: "845 NAVAL AIR SQUADRON - HMS TAIJARI - RNAS NANGA GAAT". LS over the roofs of the base buildings as Wessex W sweeps in low over the river to land on pad 2. Open-air engine maintenance on Wessex L, while another helicopter, this one painted in camouflage, is refuelled. The camera then embarks in a helicopter which accompanies Wessex L across country, flying over dense jungle and along rivers. HA as 'L' descends into a small jungle clearing. On the ground soldiers are waiting - some heavily laden with a machine gun tripod or W/T equipment. Aerial view again as 'L' lifts off, clearing the tree tops and flying away. View out of the front windows of the camera-helicopter as it flies along a river, and good MSs of 'L' in flight. View out of the helicopter's main doors to the jungle passing beneath. LS from the ground as 'L' touches down on a grassy field - troops are waiting and board the helicopter as local villagers look on. Wessex 'L' takes off again.
