Cruisers Aurora, Sirius, Dido and Penelope, with four destroyers, bombard targets near Castellammare, south of Naples, during the night of 9 August. Cameraship is Aurora.

Night bombardment sequence - HMS Aurora fires main armament. Daylight - LS to Penelope, Sirius and Dido on cameraship's starboard quarter. Study of the ship's bow wave in low sun. Sunset - the descending sun is framed by gun barrels. LS to HMS Penelope in line astern. Study of wake. MS off port beam of destroyer HMS Pathfinder (G.10). MS from the eyes as starboard anchor is weighed - HMS Penelope is visible in the background. HA as anchor is cleaned with a hose. Study of bow wave when at speed at sea. Captain and a Lieutenant on the bridge. Sequence inside 6-inch turret as crew demonstrate the serving of the two Mark XXIII guns. Final LA from a smallcraft in Bizerta harbour as it closes on port bow of anchored Aurora and then crosses onto the starboard bow - the ship has lower booms rigged on either side.
