A jeep, with small trailer, travels through a French village; from a winch on the back, telephone lines are paid out. A despatch rider drives past. A linesman gives instructions by signalling with his hands; another linesman goes up a ladder to fix cable to a telegraph pole (two takes - on print, he loses his beret!). two linesmen hammer a metal strike, near the roadside. Film of a village road sequence, with shots of telegraph poles - two trucks drive past; shots of lines, cables winch by roadside; a French farmer walks by, with a hoe over his shoulder.
