II. Film of a HSL in rough sea - five men are standing on board, with their backs to camera; various on board, with their backs to camera; various shots of stern wave (with rear AA gun in foreground); on the bridge, a Signals Officer waits; on shore, we see a coastguard's signalling turret - two men (with a dog) prepare to signal. One flashes an Aldis, another watches through a telescope; general shot of harbour, with lamp fishing from coastguard turret in distance; two members of HSL crew (one in a white sweater); tattered RAF flag on the mast, film of HSL 183 travelling at speed through the water (and overtaking vessel from which footage shot).
Object description
I. An HSL enters Shoreham harbour; the crew stand on deck, and the launch is securely moored; other, smaller, launches are moored nearby. Launch No 73 leaves the harbour (an American vessel); HSL No 183 moves from the camera, away from the harbour and out to sea; shots of Nos 183 and 73 arriving in harbour again, and of the former crew being helped ashore, after the HSL has been tied up; a Walrus flies overhead; film of Walrus taking off and landing (various takes); a man signals from the HSL with an Aldis lamp; close-up of hands on the wheel of the HSL and on the engine-room telegraph (signalling 'full-fore together'); film of a man fishing, from the deck - he hastily pulls in his line and runs down to the hold; others jump up, after relaxing, smoking etc. The HSL is cast off from a buoy (Shoreham in the background) - men stand on the jetty - one hauls on a rope.
