Object description
I. At Arromanches, DUKWs of 377th GT Company RASC head out to 'Mulberry B' harbour to collect cargo from merchant shipping and return shorewards fully laden. At a harbourmaster party HQ overlooking the DUKW slipway, an RN officer sends messages by flag to ships anchored offshore. From there, the cameraman observes DUKWs at work; 'Gooseberry' blockships, 'Spud' pierheads and 'Whale' floating roadways are visible in the background. Lorries travel to the 'Spuds' along a 'Whale' roadway. British troops have a swim. Recently-landed (?) motorised infantry and artillery units from 15th (Scottish) and 43rd (Wessex) Divisions file inland through St Come du Fresne.
Object description
III. DUKWs (377th and 633rd GT Companies RASC) make their way to No 2 Trans-shipment Area on the cliffs overlooking Arromanches where mobile cranes unload their cargoes. RASC personnel arrange jerrycans and oil drums for despatch to No 2 Army Roadway at Bayeux where they are unloaded at a POL dump from Mack, Bedford and Fordson lorries and are neatly stacked.
