Object description
Reinforcements for the 6th Airborne Division are despatched by glider from an airfield in Southern England to the Orne bridgehead in Normandy during D-Day.
Full description
Airborne troops serving with the 6th Airlanding Brigade (in particular 195th Parachute Field Ambulance Royal Army Medical Corps and the 2nd Battalion Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry?) and Divisional troops units board Horsa gliders lined up en masse on the airfield at Harwell, Oxfordshire. The camera examines some of the slogans chalked onto glider fuselages, including "Remember Coventry, Plymouth, Bristol, London. Now its our turn" and the parachute wing and 'Pegasus' flashes on an Airborne sergeant's tunic shoulder. Several fully-laden Horsas take to the air behind their No 38 Group RAF Armstrong Whitworth Albemarle Mark III tugs; more gliders are towed to the end of the airstrip and are hooked up to their towing aircraft before being sent on their way.
