Object description
II. An elderly woman (identified on the dope sheet as Madame M Bourdet) makes her way along the Caen-Bieville/Douvres-la-Délivrande road, passing a Sherman OP tank (33rd Field Regiment RA) parked outside an undamaged house near the Château de Caen on the way to her wrecked home. A member of a 59th (Staffordshire) Division 3-inch mortar team collects a rucksack from a jeep and disappears into a garden, where the Frenchwoman talks to his colleagues. A despatch rider guides a 1st Corps RASC CMP lorry convoy into Caen. Infantrymen of 1st Battalion King's Own Scottish Borderers (KOSB) patrol the bombed-out Château de Caen, in which they fire a captured Hotchkiss machine gun. Near the city centre, civilians recover furniture from a cafe; a KOSB six pounder gun detachment is seen in position.

I. In La Bijude, men from 13/18th Hussars' 'B' squadron collect smoke shells from a Fordson ammunition lorry; seen nearby are a complete Sherman troop and an infantryman (6th Battalion North Staffordshire Regiment?) carrying a galvanised steel section for use as an overhead cover for his dug-out (?). The cameraman surveys a wrecked farmyard. An ex-DD Sherman tank is replenished with smoke shells. Tankmen armed with service revolvers and an infantryman armed with a sten-gun 'patrol' ruins for the cameraman.
