Members of the West Riding Volunteers return home to Saddleworth, near Oldham, Lancashire.
A large crowd gathers in Uppermill, Saddleworth, around the newly-erected war memorial with military guard of honour ("To the Glorious Dead 1914-1919 Saddleworth"), and also outside and on the steps of the Uppermill Wesleyan Chapel. Bugler plays. The returning Volunteers, in civilian clothes, march through the village. Each section is preceded by a man carrying a card noting the local village that the section came from: Delph, Dobcross, Uppermill, Greenfield. Sports day on nearby recreation ground: running race and sack race.
