1. RADAR: THE SECRET WEAPON THAT REVOLUTIONISED WARFARE AND SPEEDED ALLIED VICTORY (04:43)
2. THE BATTLE OF ARNHEM IS REMEMBERED (02:32)
"Radar", 'The secret weapon of War' is shown to the public for the first time. Radar is produced by modification of cathode ray tube to emit rays to distance of up to 100 miles. On hitting an object the rays are echoed back to source. Allied aircraft, are equipped with apparatus which oscillates the waves, variation being detected by radar station, and thus differentiated from enemy aircraft. The time taken for refraction of the echo is proportional to distance from radar station; hence exact position can be calculated. Radar is also invaluable as means of transmitting and receiving signals from eg aircraft in distress, and as navigation aid to shipping in adverse weather conditions. Thus radar has revolutionised warfare, accelerating victory for Allies. "Remembering the Battle of Arnhem". 1st Airborne Div. attend memorial service at Arnhem.
