HMS HERMES BATTLE STATIONS AND HMS SHEFFIELD HIT [Allocated Title]
Battle stations aboard HMS Hermes; survivors arrive from HMS Sheffield, which is seen from the air.
A very long shot shows the distant HMS Sheffield, hit by an air to sea Exocet missile on 4/5/1982- it is just possible to make out a plume of smoke from the ship. In dull weather, fully armed Harriers aboard Hermes are made ready and take off. A large water pump is prepared on deck for helicopter transport (to the stricken Sheffield, apparently). Doctors hasten aboard a waiting helicopter. A Sea King helicopter brings Sheffield survivors (walking wounded, in tattered garments) onto Hermes. Miscellaneous shots show Sea Kings and Harriers hovering above Hermes, a seagull disrupting deck operations etc. A Sea King brings a fresh batch of Sheffield survivors aboard, including stretcher cases and the captain, Sam Salt. Sheffield survivors board a Sea King to be taken elsewhere. More shots show deck activities. Extensive footage (probably taken on 8/5/1982) from a helicopter circling the abandoned and still smoking HMS Sheffield shows the extent of the fire damage. A figure is seen on the foredeck (Commander Rowling, dropped aboard to reconnoitre).
