Content description
Narrator notes how the Admiralty keeps in touch with its bases around the world. Various global activities of the Royal Navy are shown: HMS Nelson on a goodwill visit to the United States, operations of the Mediterranean Squadron based at Malta. A major exercise is shown, as ships leave Grand Harbour, led by submarines, and including the veteran battleship HMS Queen Elizabeth with teh Commander of the Mediterranean Fleet. Destroyer exercise, featuring scenes on board HMS Douglas: depth charges are deployed. The aircraft carrier HMS Glorious: aircraft take off (includes air-to-air shots). The eight-barrel anti-aircraft guns and machine guns are seen in action. A smokescreen is laid. HMS Nelson and HMS Rodney: practice with 16-inch guns firing at a wooden target. Off duty scenes: shore leave, sports. Final scene shows Royal Navy ships in line at sea, as the narrator declares that "this is the "British Navy, sailing into every corner of the globe, guarding trade routes and communications, keeping the high seas open for all those who pass on their lawful occasion... flying the White Ensign across the world".
