Object description
185th Brigade consolidates 3rd Division's hold on Overloon's eastern fringes.
Full description
From the 2nd Battalion King's Shropshire Light Infantry's startlines several hundred yards north of the village, infantrymen from the battalion's leading company - 'W' or 'Z' company - advance in extended order across open fields towards wood lying to the east of Overloon; members of a 2nd KSLI 3-inch mortar detachment (?) can be seen in a dug- out in the foreground near a universal carrier parked in a mine-free lane marked-off by white tape. As the infantrymen approach the woods, they come under mortar (?) and small-arms fire, forcing them to seek cover where little exists. A Sherman OP tank from 7th Field Regiment RA and a Sherman Crab tank from the Westminster Dragoons' 'C' squadron motor towards Overloon past infantrymen from another company forming up. From the safety of a slit- trench, two infantrymen watch the company set off for its objective. Riflemen from 'X' company(?) advance between shelf-torn cottages and outhouses in Overloon's eastern outskirts, pausing variously to take cover behind low hedges and in ditches while scanning the immediate vicinity for German troops. Infantrymen cautiously scour the area around several derelict houses for German snipers and stragglers.
