MEN FROM THE SEA [Main Title]

Fictional 'case histories' are used to illustrate what follows a U-boat attack for the crews of damaged ships.

Opens with recording of 'Lord Haw Haw' claiming 9 ships sunk, 6 damaged - cut to Naval Control Officers, talking of real loss as 4 ships hit; 2 make port under their own power. Rescued survivors from one of the other ships are brought in - at Merchant Navy House, they receive food and rest, clothes, money, travel vouchers - Barbara Mullen plays Mrs Moy, wife of a seaman on the one ship still unaccounted for: she is not reassured by a clerk listing for her all the survival gear ships carry. (Reel 2) - Naval Control wonder about missing ship - a lifeboat struggles to the coast - Mr Moy, injured, is flown to hospital, and recovers - an officer tells an Admiralty enquiry the (heroic) story of the ship's last moments - men in the Merchant Navy Club discuss seamen's working conditions - closing shots of the various characters signing on for new ships.
