SUEZ - RAF AIR-GROUND STRIKES BY 6 AND 249 SQUADRONS [Allocated Title]

Camera-gun film from Venom FB4s of 6 Squadron attacking Egyptian airfields and military targets during Operation Musketeer.

Slates indicate squadron, pilot, aircraft and date of attacks, but not location of targets. First seven attacks are by pilots of 249 Squadron (Gronert, Waterman, Slade, Clayton, Moyes) on 1, 6 and 4 November using rocket and cannon fire against airfield buildings, planes and trucks on airfields and against a truck or tank in the desert. A seafront, presumably Port Said, and the Suez Canal are visible in two sequences. Remainder of reel shows thirty-two attacks by pilots of 6 Squadron (Stuart, Preston, Budd, Mackenzie, Martin, Lang, Squadron Leader Ellis, Clinch, Hurn, Harrison, Growther, Keyes, Juggin) between 1 and 6 November. Majority of attacks are against airfield buildings, planes on the ground (Ilyushin 28 bomber visible) and trucks which five days after the first attacks are still parked in the open. One of the airfields is beside water, possibly Kabrit at the tip of the Great Bitter Lake. Other targets clearly visible are an airfield control tower and a truck towing a small gun along an embanked road (towards Port Said?).
