I. 'THE DOGS OF WAR. The training of dogs in warfare has proved of great value to the Belgian Army. The dogs at their training ground, and pulling machine guns along the road'. Soldiers put down food for the dogs who emerge from their kennels to eat - most are on short tethers, but some are free to run about and the men make a fuss of these animals. Soldiers adjust the harness on teams of mastiff-like dogs, - there are two animals to each small cart. One soldier gives his charges a drink - some of the other dogs are muzzled. 'EXTRAORDINARY INTELLIGENCE. The soldier in charge of the gun team, goes forward to reconnoitre, and at the signal, the dogs pull the gun to the new position'. Soldier runs forward over open field and beckons to the dogs who pull the cart forward (the gun is covered with canvas) - on reaching the soldier the dogs lie down.
