A contemporary North Korean film on the central phase of the Korean War.

*Content Warning* Dead Bodies A long verbal introduction and a brief establishing sequence outline the history of American "aggression" and "atrocities". Chinese "volunteers" enthusiastically enlist, and drive south with Korean forces, finally capturing Seoul. Combat film is supplemented by material on the devastation caused by the war, and "interventionist" atrocities against the Korean people and culture, particularly the bombing of Pyongyang. The rest of the film (apart from a sequence on international support for the Northern cause) shows how the Koreans continue to defy the bombs. Industry is shown maintaining production despite heavy damage, while farmers work to keep up plentiful, cheap supplies; soldiers help farmers, repair railway bridges etc. Mobile cinemas, improvised restaurants, underground theatres and libraries illustrate the continuation of life as near to normal as possible; scenes of a family listening to war news on the radio and preparing parcels for troops demonstrate solidarity of home and fighting fronts. A closing montage of military scenes and inspirational slogans pledges ultimate victory.
