Flashback to lynching of witness Carretta introduces coverage of orderly trial of Rome's ex-Chief of Police Pietro Caruso, who enters the courtroom on crutches having been injured in a car-crash while attempting to escape. Public prosecutor and defence advocate are seen in action (the latter gesticulating furiously) before presiding judge delivers verdict on Caruso and his accomplice.

German 16" guns at Cap Gris Nez have been captured so the ordeal of Dover's inhabitants is now over. 107 people were killed during the cross-Channel bombardments; final demolition and rubble clearance now begins. Meanwhile RAF bombers attack Calais by day, before the start of a 24 hour truce during which civilians are evacuated. Ground and aerial bombardment is resumed immediately afterwards.
