I. "Bevin's boys." Men chosen by ballot to be coal-miners are reportedly finding conditions better than they had expected. Claim is substantiated by film showing new miners choosing where they want to work, then receiving helmets and clothing, "just as in the Army." Recruits at a typical pit (Swinton in Lancashire) are shown how to handle trucks, straighten railway lines and stack pit-props before their trip down the mine. They emerge with happy smiles. A youth from Wigan then asks an ex-Public Schoolboy whether his new occupation is not "a bit of a change?" Indeed it is, but "someone has got to do the job."

III. "The Pacific. Pummelling the Japs." Marines come ashore on Makin Island in the Gilberts. Mounting pressure of Allied air activity is illustrated by the shooting down of a Japanese medium bomber and attacks by USAAF Mitchells with "parafrag" bombs (bombs with parachutes so as to explode after plane is clear) against a barracks at Rabaul, and by Liberators against Cape Gloucester in New Britain.

IV. "Bari bombed." Ships blaze in Bari harbour following a surprise raid by German bombers.
