Object description
I. "P.M. conducts Stimson on tour of defences." Winston Churchill, accompanied by his wife, shows US War Secretary Stimson the defences at Dover. Ambassador Winant and wife are also present.
Object description
III. "Sicily - the second step." Shore scenes of troops wading ashore from vessels anchored off the rocks and Bren carriers emerging from the water onto the beach, also a Priest self-propelled gun on land. Map shows the area in the south eastern corner of the island already captured by the Allies then film shows the peaceful occupation of three towns. Union flag is hoisted at Avola where US troops make use of local transport - donkey carts and donkeys. View of 1915-18 war memorial. Troops in Rosolini receive wine from the locals. A view of a French tank (Char H) abandoned in Syracuse and a close-up of a Renault name plate are used to justify the Allied bombing of the Renault factory in Paris. Outside the town Montgomery watches as long lines of Italian POWs walk along a road before boarding landing craft bound for Tunisia.
