I. "25 years of the RAF." A tribute to and history of the RAF, which has given Britain her present supremacy in the skies. History of RAF is described in terms of a succession of planes, Imperial War Museum film chronicling the early period with pictures of a Sopwith Camel, SE5, Bristol Fighter, Handley Page bomber, RE8 and FE2b. Britain ended the First World War with 22,000 aircraft and a number of flying aces like Billy Bishop VC. Between the wars Lord Trenchard (seen beside a microphone) concentrated on quality rather than quantity, on account of "political factors." Public interest in aviation was catered for by the Hendon Air Pageants (Gauntlets and Harts in flight and 1936 views of the Wellington and Whitley), while aeronautic research continued to ensure that "British planes are the best in the world" (1931 Schneider Trophy). Present war has confirmed that RAF personnel are the "finest in the world", countless British aces having outclassed the numerically superior Germans at Dunkirk and in the Battle of Britain. Without forgetting Coastal Command's vital work, RAF now concentrates on bombing Germany and Occupied Europe night and day.
