Full description

Views of Germany's fourth battleship during construction at Wilhelmshaven introduce day of launching. Hitler arrives with Generaladmiral Raeder at dockside. Workers on ship's hull salute. Grossadmiral Tirpitz's daughter Frau von Hassel christens the 35,000 ton vessel by declaring live "In the name of the Führer and Supreme Commander I name you Tirpitz". Ship moves down slipway to sound of German national anthem with bow insignia covered. Launch is filmed from several different camera-positions to sound of finale of Beethoven's Fifth. Hitler then reviews Fleet from his launch, passing sail training ship Gorch Fock, Wolf and other torpedo boats of same class, T-11 and others of same class, U-31, U-25, U-37, Nürnberg, Leipzig, Deutschland, Admiral Graf Spee and Scharnhorst, which Hitler boards (prior to promoting Raeder to Grossadmiral). Sailor capbands of Deutschland and Scharnhorst. Item closes with final view of Tirpitz.
