FREE FLIGHT TESTS ON 1/36TH SCALE DYNAMIC MODEL OF COMET [Allocated Title]
Object of tests was: (a) to find motion of the aircraft after some major structural failure had occurred. (b) to find the motion of the major structural components after break-up had occurred. (c) to simulate a break-up at 30,000 ft and find the probable wreckage distribution. In first part of tests, models were launched at approximately 90 ft per second. from top of hangar. Early tests to establish test for breaking up models made from hangar, later tests made with balloon at height representing 30,000 ft and models dropped from this. See Comet Accident Report Part 9.
