War Artist and Illustrators described itself as "a group of leading commercial artists working on a co-operative basis" (32). They requested facilities to visit the forces for short periods in connection with their work making a "pictorial diary" of the war. The artists in question are listed at (24). There was much discussion of whether the propaganda value of such work would be worth the difficulties of securing the facilities. The Air Ministry and the Admiralty were able to arrange some visits.
