Gourdie, who was in the RAF, wrote with biographical information in October 1941, after discussing his work, and the possibilities for work as a war artist, with Eric Kennington. The file includes a presscutting about an exhibition of the Society of Scottish Artists which included work by Gourdie (10). Gourdie submitted further works in October 1944, at the recommendation of Fennemore of the CIAD, and via the Air Ministry. One of these pictures was purchased, in November, for four guineas (LD 4684) (17) . Gourdie submitted further works that same month. None were acquired but the Committee endorsed his application for facilities. Further works were submitted in March 1945, and of these, one was purchased, for 10 guineas (IWM:ART LD 4968). Other work was sent in but not acquired.
